“Flow Meets Fiber” is an exhibition catalog from July 2023. The exhibition is about remediation.  It provides a space for us to enter, reflect, and remember the Flow, our connection to nature and each other. Modernity – the author of technology, consumerism, and urbanization – has an underbelly which has left many of us overly stressed, depressed, and anxious, living lives detached from our ancestors and in conflict with our neighbors.  Many of us live in a state of distraction and self-destruction, unable to be present in the moment as we constantly respond to the devices we carry in our pockets or wear on our wrists.  The Flow is the wu-wei of Daoism, the “not doing” of the steady stream that effortlessly runs its course and connects us to each other.  Each tapestry took shape out of my own flow, developed intuitively and spontaneously from start to finish.  Each artwork embodies the Flow, reminding us to unplug, be present with each other, and go with the flow.

Soul Windows is a spirited series about our connection to transcendence.  The artworks in this series were created 2020-2021. They provide opportunities to contemplate the hidden reality behind the mundane reality we can see with our eyes. Modernity – the author of the scientific method – has reduced the real to what can be observed, documented, and replicated about the natural world and our bodies.  This has left many of us uncertain about subjectivity and those things that we feel or that happen to us that remain unexplained. Each tapestry features bold black marks that create soul windows through which we are meant to peer into the beyond, to recognize, as Antoine de Saint-Exupéry did, that “Behind all seen things lies something vaster; everything is but a path, a portal, or a window opening on something other than itself.”
