Beyond the art studio, April is also a professor at Rice University, where she studies the formation of early Christianity in the Roman Empire. While these two careers may seem worlds apart, she sees them as deeply connected through a shared fascination with how people, materials, and ideas shape one another over time.

Her work explores what she describes as "the wonder of coming into being."

Through expressive surfaces, flowing forms, and the interplay between hard porcelain and soft fiber, April creates sculptures that evoke abundance, movement, and resilience. She hopes her work reminds viewers that beauty continues to exist beneath life's challenges, connecting us "like a shining thread" through shared experience.
